fromlaraStonesfield Open Gardens is 2pm – 5pm on Sunday 28th June 2026; (gardens stay open until 5.30pm).
We have 8 gardens open to the public, some which have never been previously open. Additionally there are two gardens which are publicly accessible which are currently maintained by Gardening Club volunteers.
There is a wide variety on show including
– The front garden has a lawn, an old stone outhouse and a raised seating area backed by a high hedge and mature trees. The rear garden has a lawn, an unusually shaped boundary hedge and extensive views across the fields to the west. There is a steep bank on the right which is formed from mining chippings. The bank is backed by mature trees. The garden has an informal, natural feel with only a few flower beds. There is a pergola and rustic seating from which to enjoy the summer sunsets.
– The garden contains an open-plan hourglass shaped lawn bordered with traditional English planting and architectural features. Leading on to a Mediterranean inspired area containing palms, olive trees and a grape and rose covered pergola offering shade. An outbuilding and small greenhouse complete the lower section, surrounded by a range of trees, including an established Walnut.
– As you’d expect, a traditional cottage garden. A mix of flower beds with a productive vegetable garden including soft fruits and apple trees. The lawns are slowly being left to become meadows – yellow rattle, field scabious, corncockle, oxeye daisies and meadow clary, to name a few.
– A mainly informal 1¼ acre garden, with a number of specimen trees. A mature yew hedge and herbaceous borders, pond with bog planting, a woodland area and an apiary.
